KSILA Vice president charged with incitement over Kem Ley’s leaflets

hnom Penh Municipal Court today charged Soeng Neakpoan, vice president of the Khmer Student Intelligent League Association for incitement to commit a crime after he allegedly distributed leaflets to people.Mr Neakpoan was arrested along with two environmental activists on Wednesday when they attempted to lay a wreath for Mr Ley at the gas station despite a warning from the city hall.
In a police report, Mr Neakpoan was seen distributing leaflets to people who wanted to mark Kem Ley’s death, containing the sentence “stop extrajudicial killings”.
Municipal court spokesman Kuch Kimlong said the court charged Mr Neakpoan with incitement to commit a crime and that the court will proceed with the case.
“The suspect is now put in pre-trial detention,” Mr Kimlong said. “The authorities sent him to Prey Sar prison.”
In other news, the court on Thursday charged activist Kong Raiya with incitement to commit a felony after he was arrested over the selling of t-shirts bearing the image and quotes of slain political analyst Kem Ley on Facebook.\
